  • What volunteer opportunities does Year Up offer?

If you are looking to volunteer, Year Up offers volunteer opportunities across a range of commitment levels. We offer opportunities to be a guest speaker or to help our students hone their professional skills through events such as mock interviews, resume reviews, networking events, and more.   • What is the age requirement for volunteers?

Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer.

  • Is there a dress code?

We ask that volunteers dress in business casual attire to model the workplace norms of their respective companies.

  • Can I volunteer virtually at locations not geographically close to me?

Yes, our volunteer opportunities are designed for busy professionals. Most of our volunteer opportunities are virtual, allowing volunteers and students to connect from anywhere. To register, please visit: volunteer.yearup.org.

  • I am an alum, what kind of volunteer opportunities are there?

Giving back to Year Up is an important part of being an alum. We encourage alumni to volunteer. To register for volunteer opportunities, please visit: volunteer.yearup.org.

  • Will I receive training to prepare me for my volunteer role?

Yes! Each program volunteer will receive pertinent information and training, which will be relevant to their role and position for that program. All training is conducted by Year Up staff.

  • Where can I share feedback about an event?

You can provide feedback after an event in two ways, by clicking the link on your thank you email or logging onto your volunteer portal and clicking under “account overview”. From there you will be able to provide feedback for any event you have attended.

  • Parking and public transportation for on-site events?

Parking and public transportation vary from site to site. We encourage you to plan your travel in advance, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Please reach out to the event’s Opportunity Coordinator for specific details.

  • Is timing flexible?

Most volunteer opportunities last 2-4 hours. We ask that volunteers stay for the entire service, as sudden departures can disrupt the planned activities. However, if you know you will have to leave early, please let us know ahead of time and also inform the Opportunity Coordinator upon your arrival and before your departure.

Registration

  • Do I need to register to be a volunteer with Year Up?

All volunteers, are required to register online before their first volunteer event with Year Up. After volunteers have created a volunteer profile on the website, they are able to select volunteer shifts and respond to reservations for group volunteer opportunities.   • Where can I register to volunteer? How do I access my volunteer portal account once created?

You can register and access your volunteer portal at volunteer.yearup.org

  • How do I register for an event?

You can register for an event by clicking on the event you want to sign up for and clicking “Sign Up” or “Express Interest”

  • How do I know I am registered?

There are two different messages you may receive after registering:

    • Once you register via "Sign Up" for an event, you will receive a confirmation email.
    • When you register for "Express Interest," you will receive an email stating that your request has been submitted for approval. From there, the Opportunity Coordinator will notify you when you are confirmed.
  • What if I can’t make my shift?

We rely on volunteers to help us provide meaningful programming for our young adults. If you cannot make your shift, please log into your volunteer profile and cancel your reservation 72 hours prior to the event so that we are able to offer the opportunity to volunteers on our waitlist. To cancel, visit My Account > Overview from the account overview page, you can manage all the events you are signed up for and remove yourself from events. Alternatively, you can let us know directly by emailing the Opportunity Coordinator for the event. Missing more than three shifts without cancellation will result in a hold on your profile and removal from future shifts.

  • How do I add my registered events to my calendar?

Log onto your volunteer portal account, click on My Account > Overview and you will see all the events you are signed up for. From there, you can download calendar holds for each event.

  • How can I view volunteer events I am signed up for ?

You can view all the volunteer events you are signed up for by logging onto your volunteer portal account. Click on My Account > Overview and you can view all your upcoming events on your dashboard.

  • What information can I access through my volunteer account?

You can access the following: events you are signed up for, past events, upcoming events, your volunteer hours, etc.

  • How do I check my volunteer hours?

You can view your volunteer hours by logging onto your volunteer portal account click on My Account > Overview and you can view them under “Volunteer History with Year Up” or under “Self-Reported Hours” (if applicable)

  • Who do I contact if I have a question about an event I am signed up for?

You should contact the Opportunity Coordinator for the event, you can email them by selecting the event you signed up for and click on “click here to email this contact” next to the designated Opportunity Coordinator’s name.

  • How do I reset my password?

You can reset your password by visiting volunteer.yearup.org. Click on “Log in” and then “Forgot Your Password”. From there follow the prompts on the screen.

  • Who can I contact for any error messages or technical issues?

  • The volunteer event I want to attend says full, can I still come?

All volunteers must register ahead of time. Please place yourself on the waitlist for the opportunity. If space becomes available, you will be notified via email. Please keep in mind that all waitlisted volunteers will receive the same email, and spots are first-come, first-served.

  • How do I make a matching gift?

Some employers donate money to Year Up to "match" their employees' volunteer hours. Please contact donate@yearup.org for more information.

Team Registration

  • How do I register my team to volunteer?

In order to register a team, the “team captain” must create an account first. Once the account is created, follow the steps here to create your team. (Insert video link here)

  • How many volunteer slots can I sign up for?

To confirm the number of slots available, please contact the Opportunity Coordinator by following these steps: Select the event you’re interested in and click on “click here to email this contact” next to the designated Opportunity Coordinator’s name.

  • Can I bring additional people with me to volunteer, even though there wasn’t space for them to register online?

While we appreciate your enthusiasm, for planning and matching purposes we ask that you confirm with the Opportunity Coordinator prior to bringing additional volunteers.

  • How do I update my team participants?

  • How do I cancel my team participants?

Log on to your Volunteer Portal Account. From there, click on Account>Overview. From the account overview page, you can manage all the events you are signed up for. Under Teams," you can click "manage participants," and you can remove or add new team members.

Troubleshooting

  • I didn’t receive my email verification email, how do I complete my account?

You can request another email verification, make sure to check your junk or spam inbox. If you still do not receive it, please email Volunteer@YearUp.org for additional support.

  • My verification code doesn’t work, how do I get a new one?
